SUMMARY:Crossings: A Reading with Author Laurel Ferejohn (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Join Laurel Ferejohn for a reading from her novel Crossings\, recently long-listed for the Lee Smith Novel Prize from Blair Publisher. In the novel\, set on a small island in 1969\, a secret friendship offers respite for Tomby\, who is a gay Marine\, and Valetta\, the wary wife of one of Tomby’s nemeses in the squadron. With Vietnam looming\, the two friends become a safe port for one another as each seeks to survive\, define their life\, and find belonging. \nAuthor: Laurel is a writer and independent editor for writers of creative prose and poetry. She has published fiction\, memoir\, essays\, and poetry in journals\, and she is a winner of the Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize\, a finalist for the World’s Greatest Short-Short Story\, and a recipient of the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artist Award. She occasionally teaches flash writing through RCWMS. \nLaurel will be introduced by Abigail DeWitt\, the author of three novels:  Lili\, Dogs\, and News of Our Loved Ones. Her short fiction and essays appear in numerous journals\, and she is the recipient of grants and fellowships from the NC Arts Council\, the Tyrone Guthrie Center\, the McColl Center for the Arts\, and the Michener Society. She has taught at colleges and universities and is on the permanent faculty of the Table Rock Writers Workshop. \nCost: Free. Registration is required. \nRegister below.
