SUMMARY:Self-Care and the Nine Enneagram Types with Sandra Smith
DESCRIPTION:Self-care seems to get bad publicity\, at least in our minds and especially for women. Often\, we hear inner narratives suggesting that “Self-care is selfish.”  “I don’t need to indulge myself.”  Yet\, self-care isn’t indulgence nor is it selfish. It is an act of kindness toward ourselves\, an honoring of ourselves\, a claiming of our worth. What would you name as your barriers to caring for yourself? \nEach Enneagram type has particular inner narratives that resist attending to self. This is usually associated with the type’s idealized self and defense mechanism. During our time together\, we’ll engage in dyad inquiry\, small group discussion\, as we explore our own challenges to self-care. Self-reflection on a next step or a kindness practice will be woven into the workshop. \nParticipants will need a working knowledge of their Enneagram type to receive the most from this three-hour workshop. In preparation for this workshop\, participants are encouraged to create a “retreat-like” space around their computer. \nIn this three-hour workshop\, participants with some familiarity with the Enneagram are invited to bring their questions about the Enneagram along with an openness and  desire to grow. \nFacilitator Sandra Smith\, MDiv\, is a Certified Narrative Enneagram teacher and an IEA (International Enneagram Association) Accredited Professional. For over 20 years\, Sandra has taught the Enneagram internationally as a tool for personal\, professional and spiritual development. She serves as a mentor/supervisor for those seeking certification in the Enneagram Professional Training Program. \nSandra co-created and co-hosts the podcast\, Heart of the Enneagram\, with her colleague Chris Copeland\, that explores dimensions of the nine unique Enneagram perspectives through interviewing guests of all nine types. Since its release\, the podcast has over 350\,000 downloads in 80 countries. She co-authored the podcast companion book: Heart of the Enneagram: A Companion for Deepening Personal and Spiritual Growth. \nCost: Choose the level that works best for you.\n$65 – Regular price ticket and help someone else attend\n$50 – Regular price ticket\n$35 – Limited income/student \nRegister below. \nRegistrants will receive a Zoom link in the automated ticket confirmation.

SUMMARY:Ministry of Black Women's Self Care\, February\, 2023 - with Kim Gaubault (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Kim Gaubault recognizes that self-care is often the component that remains a form of intervention (after the break or the medical emergency) rather than a preventative measure. When we allow our bodies\, minds and/or spirits to break down in the course of doing this work\, we are not only putting ourselves at risk but we are putting at risk the integrity of the work for which we are laboring. This work is a work of self-love\, communal love\, Womanist Ethicism\, it is multi-generational\, multicultural and is not finite\, but is instead as infinite as the beauty in the divinity that is Blackness. Come and share in this life’s work! This program is specifically designed to offer practical tools for everyday self-care to Black women-identified individuals doing all forms of ministry\, in church and community. \nFebruary 2023 – It Takes (at least) Two: The Importance of Reciprocity\nMarch 2023 – We Overcome by the Word of Our Testimony: A Celebration of Us\nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates. Her personal philosophy of interpersonal interaction is\, “If I’ve not positively influenced someone everywhere I’ve gone\, I’ve not walked in my purpose.” \nCost: $10\, $25\, or $40 \nper session. Choose the price that fits your budget. \nRegister for February below. Register for March: HERE. \nRegistrants will receive a Zoom link in the automated ticket confirmation.

SUMMARY:Threshold Path of Imbolc on the Labyrinth: with Barrie Gibby (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Imbolc on Feb. 1\, that powerful Celtic Fire Festival between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox\, let’s light our “inextinguishable fire” on this eve\, in honor of Brighid/Bride/St. Brigid\, the ancient goddess-turned-saint\, who brings us together under the Great Oak to cross seasonal thresholds of our lives. In this “thin place” time of emerging light\, when life is quickening beneath us\, we take stock of what to leave behind and remember our own ancestors who gather at our hearth. What is the wisdom of Imbolc and Brigid that we can embrace in our “blue cloak” to carry forward? \nThresholds onto the path\, the turns and center place of the labyrinth will be the desk-size meditation platform to walk and culminate our time together (downloads included). Rituals\, Celtic stories\, labyrinth background and some deeper dives into this thin place will accompany the evening. Instructions for Brigid’s reed cross sent in advance. \nResources sent in advance. Open to all. \nLeader: Barrie Carter Gibby works on the creative edge between the branches of words and movement expression. An educator\, social justice activist\, accomplished pianist\, theater director\, and labyrinth facilitator\, she facilitates retreats to an international audience on a variety of themes. As a member of the Veriditas Faculty (Worldwide Labyrinth Project)\, Veriditas Council and an Advanced Certified Labyrinth facilitator\, Barrie finds sacred spaces everywhere.\n \n \nCost: $40. Sessions will be recorded for those with schedule conflicts. \nRegister below. Registrants will receive a Zoom link in the automated ticket confirmation. \nThis workshop is a natural extension of our programming\, as RCWMS has been using its own 40’ x 40’ canvas labyrinth since 1998. For more information about RCWMS’s labyrinth programming history and current opportunities please visit Labyrinth Resources and scroll down to the video featuring RCWMS’ Jeanette Stokes.

SUMMARY:A Reading by Mary Rocap from her memoir\, 1104 Broad Street (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a reading from her new memoir\, 1104 Broad Street\, with author Mary Rocap\, in conversation with Georgann Eubanks. \nIn 1973\, freshly graduated from Duke University\, Mary Rocap\, along with two people she barely knew\, opened a vegetarian restaurant in Durham\, NC: Somethyme at 1104 Broad Street. This book is both her story and the history of the restaurant and the one that would follow\, Seventh Street. It is also an attempt to look back and try to make sense of what they did and did not accomplish. While the food was central\, it was never just about food\, it was also art and politics\, culture and community. And it was 18 years of Rocap’s life. \nMary Rocap is a singer/songwriter\, author\, bread baker\, quilter and fabric crafter\, collagist\, and stargazer. Recently retired\, she is enjoying living at a more graceful and measured pace allowing for time to attend to what captures her attention. \n\nCost: Free. Registration is required. \nOrder the book: HERE\, or email maryrocap@maryrocap.com for a signed copy. Books are also available for purchase at Vaguely Reminiscent\, 728 9th St\, Durham. \nPlease REGISTER for the reading by selecting a free ticket below. Registrants will receive both a receipt and a separate email with a Zoom link in the automated ticket confirmation. Please check your spam and/or promotions folder if you don’t receive one or both of these emails. We will also be sending Zoom link reminders just prior to the event.

SUMMARY:Indigo Field Sneak Peek Author Chat with Marjorie Hudson (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:“Indigo Field brims with multigenerational drama\, carthy spirituality\, and deeply imagined characters you are unlikely to forget. In tightly compressed\, poetic language\, Hudson weaves a mesmerizing story of loss\, injustice\, and revenge conspiring to darken the human heart–and the redemptive and unexpected ways the light comes in.”\n-Sue Monk Kidd\, author of The Invention of Wings\, The Book of Longings\, and The Secret Life of Bees \nJoin us for a sneak peek of her new novel\, Indigo Field\, with author Marjorie Hudson\, in conversation with Georgann Eubanks. \nIn this eagerly-anticipated novel of moral reckoning\, due out in March\, 2023\, the unjust outcome of a murder trial\, and the chance accident that follows\, result in a feud that raises the spirits of the dead forcing enemies to become allies in order to survive. \nIn the rural South\, a retired colonel in an upscale retirement community grieves the sudden death of his wife on the tennis court. On the other side of the highway\, an elderly Black woman grieves the murder of her niece by a white man. Between them lies an abandoned field where three centuries of crimes are hidden\, and only she knows the explosive secrets buried there. \nWhen the colonel runs into her car\, causing a surprising amount of damage\, it sparks a feud that sets loose the spirits in the Field\, both benevolent and vengeful. In prose that’s been called “dazzling” and “mesmerizing\,” in the animated voices of trees and birds and people\, in Southern-voiced storytelling as deeply layered as that of Pat Conroy\, Hudson lays out the boundaries of a field that contains the soul of the South\, and leads us to a day of reckoning. \nAuthor: Award-winning author Marjorie Hudson was born in the Midwest\, raised in Washington\, DC\, and now makes her home in North Carolina. She is author of Accidental Birds of the Carolinas (stories) and Searching for Virginia Dare (history/travelogue)\, and her essays and stories plumb the depths of the human heart. \nShe lives on a century farm with her husband Sam and dog D]\, where she mentors writers and reads poetry to trees. \nThe reading is co-sponsored by RCWMS and McIntyre’s Books\, an independent bookstore in Pittsboro\, NC. \nCost: Free. Registration is required. \nPre-order the book: HERE. \nPlease REGISTER by selecting a free ticket below. Registrants will receive a Zoom link in the automated ticket confirmation.

SUMMARY:Survive Your Story: Expressive Writing for Release and Recovery with Shawna Ayoub (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Difficult experiences can become lodged in our bodies in ways that impact us daily\, and writing is a way to name\, release and even recover from those experiences. After recognizing the personal benefits of writing for release and recovery\, she has made her practice public for the last 12 years\, offering courses independently as well as through the Center for Creative Writing. SUMMARY:Tree Songs: Braiding the Paths of the Labyrinth & the Celtic Tree Zodiac - 2 Sessions (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a two-session online labyrinth retreat\, Thursdays\, October 20th & 27th. We welcome back Barrie Gibby\, who will engage participants in a deeper understanding of the labyrinth by linking its quadrants and path to life phases and the Celtic Tree Zodiac. \nTrees are the oldest living beings on earth and are more precious now than ever. How does their wisdom deepen our understanding of transformative life? Following the path of the labyrinth and practices of the Celts\, how are we listening to the trees and learning from their profound and patient wisdom? What song is rising in the sap of your soul tree to share with the world? What can we do to take meaningful action for eco-justice in our interior and exterior landscapes to partner with the Mother? \n\nIn this two-part series\, we gather as pilgrims to celebrate the beauty of your mystical Celtic birth tree and healing properties\, identify your soul tree\, and interweave the sacred feminine through the embodied spiritual practice of walking the labyrinth. The experiences of journaling\, sharing\nphotos in a slide collage\, honoring your Ogham (ancient Celtic alphabet) symbol\, creating an altar\, and singing with the trees (and Ruth!) to unfold a new path given to us by the ancients are all elements of this two- session mini-retreat. \nResources sent in advance. Open to all. \nDates: Thursdays\, October 20 & 27\, 2022. \nLeaders: Barrie Carter Gibby is an educator\, social justice activist\, accomplished pianist\, and theater director. As a member of the Veriditas Faculty (Worldwide Labyrinth Project)\, Veriditas Council and an Advanced Certified Labyrinth facilitator\, Barrie finds sacred spaces everywhere.\n \n \nRuth Cunningham is a sound healing practitioner and was a founding member of the group Anonymous 4. She specializes in early music performance as well as improvisational sacred music from varied spiritual traditions in both liturgical and concert settings. She works with individuals and groups on using the voice and music for healing and creating a spiritual practice using sound. With Anonymous 4\, Ruth performed in concerts and festivals throughout the United States\, Europe and the Far East and made thirteen recordings.  She is a member of the core faculty for The Chartres Academy Wisdom School that meets in Chartres France each summer. Learn more about Ruth here. \n \nCost: $60. SUMMARY:Ministry of Black Women's Self Care\, October\, 2022 - with Kim Gaubault (via Zoom)
\nSeptember 21: Making a Way Out of No Way: Black Women Living in Authenticity October 19: Finding a Flow: Moving Through Life’s Seasons\nNovember 16: Protecting My Peace\nDecember 21: Finishing Strong: Where I Was\, Where I Am\, Where I’m Going… \nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates. SUMMARY:Historic Stagville Tour - October 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of Historic Stagville\, a state historic site in northern Durham County that includes remnants of one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. The Bennehan-Cameron family owned approximately 30\,000 acres of land\, and enslaved about 900 people on this property. Stagville protects a fraction of the land from that plantation\, including original housing for enslaved people (1851)\, a massive barn (1860)\, and a Bennehan family house (1787-1799). Stagville is dedicated to teaching about the lives and work of enslaved people on the plantation. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to join Stagville staff and other community members in learning more about Historic Stagville. The tour will begin at 1:00. Please allow sufficient time for the drive there.\n\nLocation: 5828 Old Oxford Road\, Durham\, NC. We’ll meet at the visitors center\, which is the dark green building all the way at the end of the driveway. Everyone can park in the lot there to start. The address is 5828 Old Oxford\, Durham\, NC 27712. If folks are coming from Durham or Highway 85\, once they are on Old Oxford Highway they should keep an eye out for a Merck construction site and big company entrance on the left– the site entrance will be the next driveway on the right. Look for a sign that says Historic Stagville and a gravel driveway with a wooden gate. If you pass Stagville Road on the left\, you’ve gone too far!\n\nCost: $10/person. Additional donations to Stagville are welcome here.\n\nRegister below.

SUMMARY:Making the Road As We Go: A Reading with Jeanette Stokes (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a reading with RCWMS Executive Director Jeanette Stokes\, whose new book\, Making the Road as We Go\, is now available for pre-order. \nThe day Jeanette Stokes graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1977\, she turned to some friends and said\, “They’ll be sorry.” With only an inkling of what she would do next\, she felt sure it would have something to do with women\, faith\, and social justice. A couple of months later\, with the help of friends\, she founded the Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South (RCWMS)\, where she has served as Executive Director for most of the past forty-five years. In Making the Road as We Go she explores the path that led her from childhood in Tulsa\, Oklahoma\, to Smith College during the Vietnam War\, to seminary at Duke Divinity School and ordination as a Presbyterian minister. In the book she reflects on her evolving relationship with the church and her development as a feminist devoted to an expanded vision of faith and spirituality. This vision—which she has created in concert with an ever-changing community—provides sustenance for the challenges of working for justice and living in an imperfect world. \nJeanette Stokes is the author of three collections of essays\, 25 Years in the Garden\, 35 Years on the Path\, and Just Keep Going; three memoirs\, Hurricane Season: Living Through a Broken Heart\, Flying Over Home\, and Following a Female Line; and a book on writing\, Just Keep Going: Advice on Writing and Life. She is happier if she spends some time each week walking\, writing\, painting\, and messing around in the garden. \n\nPre-order the book: HERE.

\nAugust 17: “Black Don’t Crack”\, but What Had Happened Was…: Black Women and Aging \nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates.
