SUMMARY:Labyrinth Walk at Duke Chapel
DESCRIPTION:The labyrinth\, a 40-foot circle containing a winding path\, is an ancient spiritual practice of meditation and self-centering found in religious traditions from around the world. This labyrinth is a copy of the labyrinth in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France from around 1220. \n\n\n“Walking the labyrinth is a wonderful way to set aside some time for quiet retreat\, unwind and listen for our deepest wisdom\,” said the Rev. Jeanette Stokes of the center. “While physically engaged in following the curving path\, the mind can be free to rest or focus on a particular thought or issue\, and the heart can be free to listen for the leading of God. The labyrinth is a wonderful container for our hopes\, questions and concerns. As we walk\, new insights often arise.” \n\nPlan to allow about half an hour for your labyrinth walk. Please wear clean socks. The event is free & all are welcome.

SUMMARY:Celebration of Elder Wisdom\, by Anita McLeod
DESCRIPTION:We are so pleased to announce the publication of Elder Women: Searching for Truth in Circles of Women\, a book of Anita McLeod’s collected writings. Join us for a celebration of Anita and the book on December 8\, in the season of what would have been her 80th birthday.\n\nWe are forever grateful for Anita McLeod’s many roles and influences at RCWMS. Anita embodied feminist principles in her leadership style: she trusted groups of women to learn from and teach one another without her having to be the kind of teacher who tells participants everything they need to know. She trusted the groups more than the “experts.” She often said\, “I wanted to learn\, to have meaningful conversations\, and to contemplate my choices in a circle of thoughtful women.”\n\nWe hope you will join with Anita’s friends and family for the launch of this labor of love and esteem. Elder Wisdom will be for sale at the event.

SUMMARY:Reading: The Last Straw by Bryant Holsenbeck

SUMMARY:The Ministry of Black Women's Self-Care
DESCRIPTION:Self-care is often the component that remains a form of intervention (after the break or the medical emergency) rather than a preventative measure. When we allow our bodies\, minds and/or spirits to break down in the course of doing this work\, we are not only putting ourselves at risk but we are putting at risk the integrity of the work for which we are laboring. This work is a work of self-love\, communal love\, Womanist Ethicism\, it is multi-generational\, multicultural and is not finite\, but is instead as infinite as the beauty in the divinity that is Blackness. Come and share in this life’s work! This program is specifically designed to offer practical tools for everyday self-care to Black women-identified individuals doing all forms of ministry\, in church and community. \nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates. Her personal philosophy of interpersonal interaction is\, “If I’ve not positively influenced someone everywhere I’ve gone\, I’ve not walked in my purpose.” \nCost: $10-40\, sliding scale. Scholarships available! \nContact: events@rcwms.org
