SUMMARY:The Ministry of Black Women's Self-Care
DESCRIPTION:Self-care is often the component that remains a form of intervention (after the break or the medical emergency) rather than a preventative measure. When we allow our bodies\, minds and/or spirits to break down in the course of doing this work\, we are not only putting ourselves at risk but we are putting at risk the integrity of the work for which we are laboring. This work is a work of self-love\, communal love\, Womanist Ethicism\, it is multi-generational\, multicultural and is not finite\, but is instead as infinite as the beauty in the divinity that is Blackness. Come and share in this life’s work! This program is specifically designed to offer practical tools for everyday self-care to Black women-identified individuals doing all forms of ministry\, in church and community. \nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates. Her personal philosophy of interpersonal interaction is\, “If I’ve not positively influenced someone everywhere I’ve gone\, I’ve not walked in my purpose.” \nCost: $10-40\, sliding scale. Scholarships available! \nContact: events@rcwms.org

SUMMARY:Holistic Enneagram: A Spirituality of Head\, Heart\, and Body
DESCRIPTION:What would you say if I told you that you have more than one brain—that your heart and your gut both have their own intrinsic nervous systems? They have neurons that can take on information\, store it\, change\, and adapt. Your head\, heart\, and gut are the components of your human mind\, and the Enneagram can help you better listen to all of them. Join other women and nonbinary folks under 40 for this 1-hour overview of the Nine Enneagram Personality Types\, and consider joining a four-week class this July that will cover: Triads and Resource Points\, Ego Defense Mechanisms of Type\, Instinctual Subtypes\, and Deepening Spiritual Awareness. \nLeader: The Rev. Adrienne Koch is the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina’s Young Adult Missioner and Campus Minister for the Raleigh Area and a spiritual formation leader at Duke Divinity School. She has studied under teachers in the Narrative Tradition of the Enneagram for the last 7 years to become a spiritual director where she uses the Enneagram as a guide for spiritual transformation and renewal. \nAdrienne received her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Malone University in Ohio in 2004\, with concentrations in Theology\, Psychology\, and Communications\, and completed her M.Div. with a certificate of Gender\, Theology\, and Ministry from Duke Divinity School. She completed a two-year non-degree Anglican program for Theological Studies at Sewanee in TN\, and a chaplain residency at the VA Health Care System in Durham where she was part of a fellowship program that provided emotional intelligence simulations for medical professionals. Adrienne and her wife\, Jennifer\, reside in Raleigh with their son and yellow lab. \nCost: $10. Registration for this workshop is open to those under 40.\nContact: meghan@rcwms.org \n

SUMMARY:Dust Bunnies & Sparrows: A Reading and Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sparrows bathe in dust to absorb the oil that would collect on their wings and keep them from flying. This is a reminder\, from nature\, that healing and wholeness can be found even in the most unlikely places. Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is a 20+ year survivor/victim of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Her book\, Dust Bunnies and Sparrows: A Poetic Declaration of Liberation from/through Domestic Violence\, is how she has chosen to tell her story to break the silence and shame of a truth that has impacted her life in challenging ways\, but she has not permitted it to keep her from soaring.  Come witness this survivor’s/victim’s declaration of liberation\, through poetry and storytelling. The writing workshop portion of our time together will provide tools for writing/telling your story and opportunities to share. The book will be available for purchase for $10\, or you can order it on Amazon for $15. \nLeader: Kimberly Gaubault (McCrae) is an intentional lover of humanity and actively lives the self-care life about which she teaches and advocates. Her personal philosophy of interpersonal interaction is\, “If I’ve not positively influenced someone everywhere I’ve gone\, I’ve not walked in my purpose.”

SUMMARY:Reading: Georgann Eubanks
DESCRIPTION:Telling the stories of twelve North Carolina heritage foods\, each matched to the month of its peak readiness for eating\, in The Month of Their Ripening: North Carolina Heritage Foods Through the Year\, Georgann Eubanks takes readers on a flavorful journey across the state. She begins in January with the most ephemeral of southern ingredients-snow-to witness Tar Heels making snow cream. In March\, she takes a midnight canoe ride on the Trent River in search of shad\, a bony fish with a savory history. In November\, she visits a Chatham County sawmill where the possums are always first into the persimmon trees. Talking with farmers\, fishmongers\, cooks\, historians\, and scientists\, Eubanks looks at how foods are deeply tied to the culture of the Old North State.\n\n\nCost: Free and open to the public.\nContact: RCWMS\, 919-683-1236\, events@rcwms.org.

All faiths welcome. \nLeader: Rebecca Welper has an MFA in playwriting and has taught expressive writing since 2005.\nCost: $10-$25 sliding scale.\nContact: rebecca@rcwms.org.
