A Reading by Mary Rocap from her memoir, 1104 Broad Street (via Zoom)

January 26, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us for a reading from her new memoir, 1104 Broad Street, with author Mary Rocap, in conversation with Georgann Eubanks.

In 1973, freshly graduated from Duke University, Mary Rocap, along with two people she barely knew, opened a vegetarian restaurant in Durham, NC: Somethyme at 1104 Broad Street. This book is both her story and the history of the restaurant and the one that would follow, Seventh Street. It is also an attempt to look back and try to make sense of what they did and did not accomplish. While the food was central, it was never just about food, it was also art and politics, culture and community. And it was 18 years of Rocap’s life.

Mary Rocap is a singer/songwriter, author, bread baker, quilter and fabric crafter, collagist, and stargazer. Recently retired, she is enjoying living at a more graceful and measured pace allowing for time to attend to what captures her attention.

Cost: Free. Registration is required.
