She is author of The Awesome Kids Guide to Race (Justice Leaders Press, 2023); Those Kids, Our Schools: Race and Reform in An American High School (Harvard Education Press, 2015); and co-author of Race Dialogues: A Facilitator’s Guide to Tackling the Elephant in the Classroom (Teachers College Press, 2019). Shayla is currently working on multiple forthcoming children’s books focused on issues of social justice and how to be a whole, healthy human. She lives with her spouse and three children and gets her best ideas at 3 a.m.
