Weaving feminism & spirituality into a vision of justice for the world
As we continue to emerge from a painful season of COVID-19 into the fullness of earth’s blossoming spring, will we as individuals and communities, have ways of seeing anew and beginning again? Or will we allow old hurts and fears keep us from joining in the fullness of God’s love for all of creation and bringing our presence to bear in the face of injustice and brutality and other hurts of the world? Celtic Christianity has a long and rich tradition to offer to the contemporary individual seeking to find a muscular presence in the world that arises from internal knowledge and a deepening awareness of one’s unique relationship to God.
The three-hour session will draw upon Listening for the Heartbeat of God; A Celtic Spirituality by Philip Newell. It will be led by Terry Allebaugh, one of the leaders of Peace Hill. Terry has nurtured a lifelong interest in the mystical aspects of various religious traditions while focusing his active life on homelessness and housing issues. Currently he is enrolled in The Living School, a two-year program of study and application of the contemplative traditions through the Center for Action and Contemplation founded and directed by Richard Rohr. He also serves as an adjunct instructor in housing policy and implementation at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University.
