Weaving feminism & spirituality into a vision of justice for the world
We will spend the day together experiencing and exploring the life, words, and work of the great preacher, educator, activist, and mystic, Howard Thurman. Using meditation, journal writing, small group sharing and body movement we will seek to discern what Thurman offers us, both individually and collectively, that might buoy us as we continue our journey(s) through this season of tremendous change.
Dumas Harshaw and Phil Mathews be our leaders for the day. Dumas is the recently retired pastor of First Baptist Church in Raleigh and has served as an adjunct instructor at Campbell, Duke, and Shaw Divinity Schools. Phil Mathews served in pastoral ministries for nearly 40 years, retiring at the end of 2012. He believes that each of us is a unique and ever- changing expression of the manifestation of love, and we’re all trying to find our way home. Both serve as board members of Peace Hill at Avila
