Taking Action for the Good of All, with Karen Ziegler – 3 Sundays

May 10, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free – $30.00

Via Zoom.

Activist Karen Ziegler recognizes that right now there is tremendous heroism, from healthcare workers and first responders and so many others who are making life possible right now.  Those of us not on the front lines may be doing difficult inner work, facing ourselves in new ways, developing fresh compassion for ourselves and others, and finding renewed energy for activism and for serving our neighbors.

Join her via zoom on Sunday afternoons, May 10, 17, 24, 2020, from 12:00-2:00 pm, to explore how we can continue to advocate for ourselves and others during these times.

Session I: ACTIVISM AND SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Through contemplation, discussion, and practice we will explore what activism is and how it relates to our spiritual traditions and practices.  All welcome regardless of faith, lack of faith, and experience or inexperience in taking action for political or social change.

Session II: EVERYDAY ACTIVISM
We will explore what is happening on a local, state, and national level, what change we want, and how we might by simple actions help to tilt the balance toward justice.

Session III: THE VIRUS AND THE ELECTION
We will explore how the COVID-19 virus and other current events might affect the 2020 election, share the most effective and satisfying ways to get involved, and take a deep dive into self care.

Leader: Rev. Dr. Karen Ziegler is the lead organizer for Tuesdays with Tillis Indivisible. She served as the Senior Pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of New York, a queer church, in the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and was formerly on the Board of Trustees of RCWMS. She is active in the Poor Peoples Campaign and is on a quest to connect her lifelong Christian, Tantric, and Buddhist study and practice to social and political action.
