Weaving feminism & spirituality into a vision of justice for the world
We are excited by the opportunity to gather in person for a late-summer retreat, August 31 – September 3, at the beach with Rachael Wooten. We will engage Tara through practice, through nature, through time alone, rest, and time in community.
We will do some of the Sadhana practices of the 21 Taras. Rachael will bring a few new teachings as well. We’ll spend some time in community, talking with each other about what these practices have meant to us over the years, and how we relate to them in our every days lives.
There will also be ample time allotted for rest and for walking on this beautiful property. Trinity Center was built among the trees of an old maritime forest and is surrounded by wetlands with the sound on one side and the ocean on the other. The meeting spaces are large, and there are decks/porches with large rockers to rest into this retreat time.
Please bring any simple art supplies you have, a journal, and a spacious heart/mind to simply do nothing on some of our breaks.
Location: Our lodging and sessions will take place at the Trinity Center. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we will reserve single rooms for each participant. People who come to retreats from out of state often fly into New Bern, NC airport, about 1 hour from Trinity Center. The larger RDU airport, situated between Raleigh and Durham, is about 2.5 or 3 hours from Trinity Center.
Dates: Thursday, August 31-Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Schedule:
Arrive: August 31 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm, in time for dinner.
Our opening session will begin at 7:30 pm.
Depart: September 3. We’ll have a closing session in the morning and depart after lunch.
Leader: Rachael Wooten, PhD, is a Jungian analyst, writer, and Tibetan Buddhist dharma teacher. Rachael is the author of Tara: The Liberating Power of the Female Buddha, 22 Meditations to Heal Ourselves and Repair Our World. “Tara connects you to the archetypal Divine Feminine” writes Wooten, “an energetic force that exists within us and all around us.” More than a decade in the making, this practical, psychological guide shows how those of any tradition can directly access Tara, through clear instruction and authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
