Weaving feminism & spirituality into a vision of justice for the world
SOLD OUT! Forget those stodgy 5 paragraph formats you learned in high school, or the college entrance essays you were forced to write for admissions. Essay comes from the french word essayer, which quite literally means “to try.” It is one of the most expansive and delightful literary forms. In this collaborative and generative class we are going to read some great essays, talk about what makes them sing, and then work with prompts to generate some of our own. We’ll talk about voice, style, characterization and how to make the personal universal.
Leader: Allison Kirkland is a recent recipient of the Ella Pratt Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council! She earned her MFA in creative nonfiction from The New School in New York City, and teaches workshops all over the Triangle. One workshop participant noted that “Allison has an uncanny ability, or else a well honed one, to pull out words you didn’t know were in your head.” You can learn more about Allison here.
Classes will take place on May 10, 17, 24, & 31.
Cost: $100. Includes all four sessions.
