Writing Great Essays with Shawna Ayoub (via Zoom)

March 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$75.00 – $100.00
I hesitated for years about trying my hand at creative writing, convinced I was not actually “a Writer” because if I were, I’d have written a book or something already. . . I had no idea that there were concrete exercises you could do to prod your creativity and get your imagination flowing, and I was often surprised at what I came up with!  Shawna created a safe, supportive, encouraging space in which to step out on a limb and try. It was challenging, fun, rewarding, and totally worthwhile!

In this workshop, we will dive into the tenets of what makes a great essay, troubleshoot writer’s block, and work on enhancing our essays at the sentence level. Our aim will be to generate a framework for developing or already-written essays in order to better understand our own goals for the finished product. Whether you are seeking information about essay writing or trying to heighten your already-written essay, this workshop is for you.

Writers will take home a packet of writing examples  as well as prompts, and can contact Shawna for written feedback within two weeks of this workshop.

Leader: Shawna Ayoub is a brown, queer, Durham-based writer and instructor whose work prioritizes the engagement of difficult topics. Her work has appeared in Verywell Mind, Survivor Lit, Exit 7, [wherever], The Archipelago, and The Manifest-Station. Learn more about Shawna here.
