Join RCWMS on April 5, 2024 for a traditional Japanese tea gathering with Host Chizuko Sueyoshi.
Nestled in the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum at Duke Gardens, the teahouse was built in 2007 as part of a sister city project between Durham and Toyama, Japan. With its attention to the smallest details this experience epitomizes the Japanese belief that each moment in time is unique, and worthy of the fullest appreciation.
RCWMS’ Jeanette Stokes values the ways in which things are prescribed and choreographed so one can take comfort in what to expect, and yet in that sameness there is variation. The teacups and the sweets that are served as well as a scroll on the wall will all be different each time because those things are chosen to go along with the season.
Learn more about the tea gathering and what to expect in a short video created by Our State magazine.
